Food, produce and craft markets
We all want to know a bit more about where our food comes from, how it is made and who made it. What better way to find out than to meet some of the people who are closest - those who grow it, make it or work directly with suppliers.
Now is your chance, twice each month in Hebden Bridge and once each month in Halifax town centre, when food, produce and craft markets come to town.
The more you ask the more you will learn. You can ask about home made ice cream, you can sample jams and chutneys and you can come away with a lunch of game pie or Calderdale made Greek mousaka. You can even obtain exotic spices and foods where you can talk to the trader who flies out to meet the growers.
It's all about quality of the products and knowledge of the traders.
There are currently two food, craft, produce markets in Calderdale:
- Russell Street, Halifax and
- Lees Yard, Hebden Bridge.
Both venues feature mainly home grown produce including:
- Jams, preserves, honey and pickles
- Cakes
- Fish and home-reared meats
- Continental and health foods
- Herbs.
Alongside all this amazing food you will find some stalls selling locally made jewellery and crafts, stunning flowers and plants grown just down the road from the market. So why not bring your eco bag and fill it with a treat of a day out.
In addition to these events the Council is currently exploring the potential to encourage the supply of local produce through the normal open air markets each week. Both events are held to encourage social interaction and to reduce food miles by providing retail outlets that enable farmers to sell their produce.
Hebden Bridge - every 1st and 3rd Sunday each month.
Stall rents £20 - waiting list in operation.
Halifax - every 3rd Saturday each month.
