Want to donate or loan from your local museum or gallery? Here's how!

Loans

Calderdale Museum and Gallery Service have a range of handling boxes which can be loaned to groups and organisations. They are designed to support Key Stages 1, 2, 3, & 4, but are also useful for other groups.

Some of the themes covered are: Old Toys, Homefront and Contemporary Crafts. The boxes contain original and replica objects, as well as information sheets about the objects and the theme.

There is a small charge to borrow the boxes, which can be loaned out for two week periods.

Donations

If you have an object of historical interest, which was made or used in Calderdale, or relates to the collections already held by the service and would like to donate it please contact a member of the Collections Team.

You will need to make an appointment with a collections officer, so that you can bring your object(s) in for assessment. The collections officer will try to find out as much as possible about the object(s) and its history, e.g. how old it is; what it was used for; who owned it and any interesting stories attached to it. It is always helpful if you have any paperwork relating to the item, such as receipts of purchase, instructions books, photographs. All of this adds to our understanding and the richness of the object.

The service will make a decision whether to accept your donation based on our existing collections, our collecting priorities, legislation and Council policy. We are unlikely to be able to make a decision to accept there and then.

Should you wish to make a bequest to the service, please contact the Collections Team to discuss the nature of the bequest.
