Shibden Park

Park facilities

For those wishing a pleasant, relaxing day out there are many facilities available within Shibden Estate. Availability of individual facilities varies with the seasons. For further information please contact:

Mereside Visitor Centre and cafe

From 27 July: The Shibden Mereside Visitor Centre and cafe opens in conjuction with Coffee Culture. For opening times, information on the function room and other facilities contact:

Pitch and putt

A nine hole course, with clubs and balls available for hire.

Cafés and picnic areas

There is a café in the park and at the hall, providing a variety of hot and cold snacks, drinks and ices. An ice cream van also visits the park, to be found close to the play area.

Miniature railway

The miniature railway is again open to the public with a change to the route whilst we carry out work to the bridges over Red Beck. This work will be completed by the end of June.

Boating lake

Rowing boats and children's paddle boats can be hired from the boat hut at the far end of the lake.

Play area

Popular play area including swings, roundabouts and climbing frames provides an occasional venue for childrens entertainment.

Hall

Over six hundred years of architecture and craftsmanship is represented in Shibden Hall, reflecting its continual development to meet the needs of its owners. This ranges from the 16th century stone mullioned painted glass windows, to the housebody that was modified in the 19th century by Anne Lister.

Folk Museum

The Folk Museum provides a glimpse of ordinary people's lives, including tools and objects familiar to the people of West Yorkshire before the First World War, housed in the 17th century barn and outbuildings.

Orienteering course

A permanent orienteering course, planned by East Pennine Orienteering Club, with courses designed to suit varying levels of ability.

Nature trails

A network of footpaths and walks range from disabled access tracks and paths, to rough footpaths within the woodland areas.

Information centre and shop

The shop and information centre are located within the hall and sell a range of local pottery, books, leaflets, guides and gifts, in addition to the range of promotional and educational leaflets relating to Shibden.

Toilets

There are three toilet sites within Shibden Estate, these are to be found adjacent to the café and lower car park (including disabled); within the children's play area; at the entrance to the hall and museum (including disabled). These are inspected twice daily during the summer and daily during the winter period.
