Shibden Friends

There are many friends of Shibden and we aim to formalise these contacts into a Shibden Friends Group. Communities get involved through environmental groups, local interest groups, special interests and sports and are a welcome asset for the Shibden Estate. The many existing groups are listed below and if you are interested in joining in, please contact either the group direct or call Shibden Estate (01422 382897 ).

Much of the work of Naturefriends UK, a European organisation providing advice and volunteers on ecological improvements, has been based within the Cunnery Wood area of Shibden Estate. This has seen new footpaths, improvements to the ponds and surrounding areas, providing a sanctuary for native flora and fauna whilst forging friendships amongst people.

The National Dry Stone Wall Association has constructed an exhibit within the Shibden Estate aimed at educating the general public and providing training for prospective dry stone wallers. We hope to encourage these relations by creating a dry stone walling friends group to guide future opportunities for dry stone walling within the estate.

Friends of Shibden Estate (e-mail: deborah.comyn-platt@calderdale.gov.uk ) The diverse interests and activities that take place at Shibden reflects its popularity with the local community and visitors. This interest will ensure that Shibden develops to suit the needs of those it serves. Are you interested in becoming a 'friend' of Shibden Estate?
