Upbeat exercise referral scheme
The Upbeat Scheme is a ten week programme of activities which has been organised in partnership with local GP's (General Practitioners), Calderdale Primary Care Trust (NHS) and Calderdale Council.
It is aimed at people who are not used to physical activity and who might have certain medical conditions. It gives you the opportunity to try some regular activity to help improve your health and wellbeing. There are regular sessions available throughout the week at various locations within Calderdale.
If you are interested in taking part in regular physical activity then make an appointment to see your doctor or practice nurse. They will then recommend you to start the scheme if they feel you would benefit from regular exercise.
When you have been recommended to take part your doctor or practice nurse will send your details on a form to the Upbeat Team.
Once your details have been processed you will receive a letter inviting you to contact the Upbeat co-ordinator to book on to a ten week course.
The Upbeat Scheme now offers a free 'Healthy Weight' programme for anyone interested in improving their health and lifestyle. The sessions include information and advice about healthy eating, reading food labels, physical activity and energy balance. The scheme is for Calderdale residents who have heart disease or conditions that put one 'at risk' of developing it; including diabetes and being overweight with a BMI (Body Mass Index) over 30.
