Binroyd was originally a timber-framed house, in the 16th century the exterior was clad in stone as were many other buildings at this time. Some of the plasterwork, created by Michael Wainhouse in 1670, is now in Bankfield Museum.
The house was originally owned by the Brigg family, who in 1712 sold it to Richard Stern. Stern's son passed the property on to the Pulleyn family, who lived there until it was demolished in the mid-20th century.
