The postcard shows the junction of Coal Pit Lane and Wakefield Road to the west of Clifton Wood. The viaduct in the distance carried the Bailiff Bridge branch of the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Co. line from Huddersfield to Bradford. In 1948 the line was closed to passenger traffic, and in 1952, closed to all freight.

The viaduct and railway have now been dismantled, and the Wakefield Road is the main route from Brighouse to the M62 junction in the valley bottom.
